If you are one of the 50 million Americans suffering from varicose veins or spider veins, you’ll be delighted to know that new technologies offer an easy and pain-free solution to unhealthy veins.
Our VenaCure and VNUS treatments offer sleek solutions to a problem that once required painful, invasive surgery and extended recovery time.
Varicose veins are not only unsightly – if left untreated, they can lead to major circulatory complications and can seriously compromise your overall health.
Varicose Veins
Varicose veins are swollen and/or stretched veins which protrude in a rope-like manner from the skin. Normal veins, by virtue of one-way valves, channel blood through the body. When a valve becomes defective, it allows blood flow to leak down and collect, resulting in congestion and dilation of the vein. This condition is known as Venous Insufficiency or Venous Reflux Disease is the cause of Varicose Veins.
VenaCure and VNUS treatments are minimally invasive alternatives to vein stripping and can be done in the comfort of our office. An ultrasound will determine whether you would benefit most from VenaCure (laser technology) or from VNUS (RF-radiofrequency technology)
Neither technique requires incisions; instead, a small catheter is inserted through tiny needle punctures into the leg, heat source (laser or RF-radiofrequency) is directed through the catheter to seal off damaged vein walls, causing the collagen within them to shrink and close the compromised vein. Your body then automatically reroutes blood to healthy veins. Either procedure takes less than 2 hours and is performed using a local anesthetic. VenaCure and VNUS both offer excellent outcomes and leave little to no swelling or scarring.
Treatment of varicose veins minimizes the risk of further health issues while allowing you to return to your full, active lifestyle. Additionally, these procedures provide immediate relief from the discomfort of unsightly, bulging veins and are frequently covered by health insurance companies.

At least six weeks must be allowed between pregnancy or major surgery before scheduling your VenaCure or VNUS procedure. If you have a vein disorder for which these treatments are contraindicated, the Rocky Mountain Surgical Solutions surgical team is meticulously adept in performing more traditional procedures, such as sclerotherapy, ligation / stripping or ambulatory phlebectomy.
VenaSeal™ Closure System
VenaSeal™ Closure System, a Next-Generation Chronic Venous Insufficiency Procedure with Demonstrated Safety and Effectiveness – See more at: www.Venaseal.com
The VenaSeal procedure is the only non-tumescent, non-thermal, non-sclerosant procedure approved for use in the U.S. that uses a specially formulated medical adhesive that closes the vein. This unique approach may eliminate the risk of nerve injury that is sometimes associated with certain thermal-based procedures. The procedure is administered without the use of tumescent anesthesia, minimizing the need for multiple needle sticks. Patients also report minimal-to-no bruising post procedure – See more at: www.Venaseal.com
Microphlebectomy
This procedure is used to remove small varicose veins. Small punctures are made in the skin with a needle or puncturing instrument, and the vein is removed. Microphlebectomy is often combined with endovenous ablation.
Spider Veins
Spider veins or broken capillaries (properly named telangiectasia) are small red, blue, or purple web-like or linear veins on the surface of the skin. They are typically less than 2 mm in diameter, and can be flat or raised.
While Spider Veins do not pose health risks like varicose veins, they can contribute to self-consciousness and interfere with your participation in outdoor activities. More attractive legs are just a step away: Dr. Richards is an expert in both Sclerotherapy and Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy.
Sclerotherapy has been used effectively for over a century to treat spider veins. It involves the injection of a solution into the affected vein, irritating the vessel lining. This causes it to swell and coagulate. The blood then naturally reroutes itself to other veins. Eventually, the vessel becomes scar tissue and fades from view.
Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy represents the latest advance in such treatment. It utilizes a “detergent” sclerosant (such as sodium tetradecyl sulphate) mixed with air, creating ‘foam’, that is injected into the affected vein. The dispersion of the foam is then tracked by ultrasound. This allows larger spider veins and varicosities to be treated.
